Overview

The Southern Poverty Law Center created the Teaching Tolerance program to better share the tools of educating for diversity. The project combats prejudice among our nation’s youth while promoting equality, inclusiveness, and equitable learning environments in the classroom. The Teaching Tolerance program created by The Southern Poverty Law Center to educate America’s youth on diversity & inclusion. Please note, this is a student project & unsolicited.

Problem

The appeal of this project would be even greater if there was a social component. Currently, it is only lessons and films, I wanted to create a social element so educators would be able to communicate with their peers on the results of Teaching Tolerance lessons & curricula.

Solution

The Teaching Tolerance App will provide educators the ability to create a community. Not only will it allow teachers to keep track of their classrooms but also contribute to a national conversation on the importance of diversity.

Identity

A unifying mark paired with a clean influential typeface.

Color Palette

I wanted to touch on basic vibrant colors that you would typically see in a classroom, hallways the playground etc.

Mobile Experience

The app includes a social channel for teachers to share feedback over lesson plans, student progress & class/school calendar.

Print Illustrations

I conceived and iterated on options with my group and we landed here. These ads were influenced by the idea that children are sponges, they adhere to the environment in which they're surrounded. I wanted to create a compelling message by pairing racial slurs with a child's drawing that would end up on the fridge or the classroom wall.
